Some of the best dancers from the best companies in the world will perform a variety of dance styles by the best choreographers - from modern to contemporary to classical ballet - accompanied by a wide range of music. You will experience the awesome talents of the dancers and great choreographers such Petipa and Vaganova, who defined classical dance, world renowned choreographers of today, John Cranko, Alonzo King, William Forsythe, James Kudelka, and exciting new choreographers Krzyxztof Pastor and Derek Dean. Dancers who will perform in this year’s Gala include exciting soloist Gennadi Saveliev of American Ballet Theatre for his third Gala appearance, with Sarah Lamb, principal dancer of the Boston Ballet. From the Dutch National Ballet, principal Larissa Lezhnina and her partner, Viacheslav Samodurov principal with Royal Ballet, both formerly of the Kirov Ballet, will dance classical and neoclassical repertoire. From Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, dance greats Chiharu Shibata and Prince Credell will amaze the audience accompanied by music of Bach and Coleman Hawkins. National Ballet of Canada principal dancers, Aleksandar Antonijevic and Sonia Rodriguez will amaze audiences with their versatility. Columbus, Ohio’s own Bridget Breiner, principal dancer with Stuttgart Ballet, will perform with her partner Christopher Roman of Ballet Frankfurt. Dance Theatre of Harlem principal dancers Donald Williams and Kellye Saunders spellbound the audience last year and return this year. Houston Ballet makes its third Gala appearance with principal dancers and BalletMet Columbus principal dancers will be featured in both performances. BalletMet Artistic Director, Gerard Charles, “ There are great dancers all over the world; to have them perform together in one place is a rare treat and a golden opportunity for those who appreciate the best life has to offer. We are thrilled that BalletMet can be a part of this inspiring evening.”
In previous Gala shows, the audience went wild with applause and cheers in appreciation of the excellence of the dancers. Audience responses included "this was the best dance performance I've seen in Cincinnati", "Please do this again next year", and “I had sensory overload!" The excitement was evidenced by resounding and vocal applause for each piece, and the thunderous standing ovation at the final bows. The audience stood in awe when the lights finally came up, seeming to bask in the sensation of the thrill and excitement of the evening. Even the performers loved the show. Several dancers who have performed in Galas all over the world commented that the Gala of International Ballet Stars was the best they had performed in or attended. “All left their hearts on the stage, and the audience responded with a standing ovation and applause that wouldn’t stop.” Carol Norris, Cincinnati Enquirer
