Poetry Contest Winner (Grades 7-9)

Happily Ever After
Kelsey Dickerhoof, Grade 8, Age 13, Mason Middle School

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shimmering glass slippers,

Stories of romance,

Princes falling in love, after just one glance.

These tales we grew up with,

Each has its curves and bends,

But all of them come to similar ends.

These old classic woven tales,

Brought to life by Mom and Dad,

Can make us very happy, or leave us sorry and sad.

These tales which wind around our hearts,

Inducing joy and laughter,

All end the same,

Happily ever after.

Poetry Contest Winner (Grades 10-12)

Spring Fairy
Michelle Burbage, Grade 10, Age 15, Colerain High School

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Velvety petals waken from their nap

The heavens crying serum saphires

As Iris lends paths leading to good hap

Setting the Earth into blazing fires

Bird of prey arise seeking to be free

Painted ladies shall greet the earthen world

Leaves reborn have listened to wind and heed

Life everywhere already has untwirled

Ring of fairies dance to pure hearts delight

The golden globe luminates alone

As the world falls into eternal light

This relam of supernatural goes unknown

Mere earthborn never seen as sprouted wing

Yet can hear an innocent beauty sing

Cinderella, Cinderella sweep the kitchen floor.

All they ask me is, do this and do that. I just wanted to go to the ball.

Cinderella, Cinderella tie my ribbon for my dress.

All they ask me is, do this and do that. I just wanted to go to the ball.

Cinderella, Cinderella bring me some tea.

Stop!

Cinderella this, Cinderella that. Can't you let me have some ball?

Cinderella, Cinderellawhere's my tea?

All they ask me is, do this and do that. I just wanted to go to the ball.

I guess I wasn't loud enough, I guess I wasn't loud enough.

Cinderella
Laura Gill, Grade 8, Age 13, Campbell County Middle School

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cinderella was dressed in yellow

She want a kiss from her lovely fellow

She thought she kissed a snake

In a quick moment she stopped

And think of how it could be: to be the one she kissed was her future soul mate.

Witch
Laura Gill, Grade 8, Age 13, Campbell County Middle School

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are the mean one Miss Witch

You don't like children Ms. Witch

Witch get away don't eat me for

Whom I am your daughter.

You laughed you cried took a sip and

Almost dies till that person gave you

His life so cry.

THe one who died for you was mine.

Happily Ever After is part of ballet tech ohio performing arts association's Leaping for Literacy Project

The Leaping for Literacy Project has been established by ballet tech ohio performing arts association to celebrate literacy through fun and entertaining performances, and to encourage families to read together and use their own creative skills to reinforce their interet in books. Studies have shown that children who read and are read to at home are more successful in school. Reading is essential! This program comes to fruition each spring, when we perform our family-friendly, literacy based original ballets. This year's production, "Happily Ever After" is packed full of charming and clever characters from an assortment of beloved fairy tales. Last year's Seuss-inspired production, "Green Legs and Ham" performed to sold-out crowds, and now an abridged version is touring local schools through the Cincinnati Arts Association's Artists on Tour program. In addition, the project includes an annual poster and poetry contest and outreach performances to area libraries and bookstores.
